Born in 1940 in Moscow. As a child, during the World War IIar, was evacuated to Ural. Studied at the Institute of Culture in Moscow. Sonin was acquainted with I.Erenburg, and after the writer´s death in 1967, he started to paint seriously. Was imprisoned in Moscow for zionist activity. Repatriated to Israel in 1973. During 1988-1997 lived and worked in Japan. His pictures were shown in private and group exhibitions in Israel and abroad: in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Japan. He is a member of Israel and Japan "Artassociations". Art doesn´t arise from nowhere. There was a long period when Sonin was not painting,but only absorbing. He imbibed a spirit of Filonov´s mosaics, of Modigliani´s enigma, the Jewish wisdom of Shagal, Bulgakov´s phantasmagorias, and all this gave rise to a mature, unusual master.
